MECHANICAL/ELECTRICAL DAMAGE INVESTIGATION
Damage from Super Storm Sandy
Halliwell’s Senior Mechanical Engineers and Senior Electrical Engineers conducted field investigations to assess the scope of damage and scope of restoration to the electrical, mechanical, and vertical transportation equipment including elevators, escalators, and associated controls at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center located in New York, NY. The claimed damage occurred as a result of storm surge from Super Storm Sandy. This inspection included electrical floor boxes, distribution equipment, inverters, step-down transformers, telecommunications systems, sump pumps, sanitary pumps, associated controls panels and control devices, floats, select valves, elevator equipment, devices and controls, and escalator equipment, devices and controls. Halliwell’s team of experts evaluated proposals, invoices, drawings, specifications, and other documentation associated with the scope of work and costs to repair and replace equipment at the site reportedly impacted by Sandy.
Halliwell Engineering Associates also conducted an investigation to determine if the building is located within a FEMA 100 Year Flood Zone. The building is located on the City of New York, New York County Flood Insurance Rate Map. Halliwell’s experts obtained a detailed view of the FEMA FIRM map and also analyzed the detailed FEMA DFIRM database relative to the location to re-confirm the locations of the subject building relative to the boundaries of the FEMA 100 Year Flood Zone AE. Halliwell also researched if any Letters of Map Revisions (LOMR) or Letters of Map Amendments (LOMA) had been approved by FEMA that would affect the location of the FEMA Flood Zone relative to the building.
