Biography
Matt is a Licensed Professional Engineer in multiple states with over 15 years of experience in forensic engineering, damage assessment, litigation support, engineering management, and mentoring. Having provided forensic engineering and consulting services to various clients such as insurance companies, attorneys, and private entities, his professional services have included damage assessments, root cause analyses, scope of repairs determination, code requirement reviews, litigation support, and construction defect analyses. Matt’s career also has included lab testing in multiple roofing labs as well as facilitating operation and assisting with development of an ISO 17025 accredited roofing testing laboratory.
Matt’s extensive experience and training on matters related to roofing and building envelopes has included roof and building envelope failure analyses, damage assessments, scope of repairs determinations, construction defect litigation, material forensic testing, and in-situ testing of roofing assemblies. Matt’s project involvement in storm-related damage analysis has spanned across many different types of facilities such as hospitals, shopping malls, universities, military establishments, high-rise buildings, commercial properties, manufacturing complexes, churches, multi-family facilities, private residences, and many others. This variety of facilities has encompassed many different roof types and a wide array of roof assemblies. Matt also provides mechanical engineering failure and damage consulting services, evaluating many mechanical systems such as grain elevators and agriculture systems, fire sprinkler systems, piping, conveyor systems, man-type elevators, air conditioning systems, boiler systems, oil and gas components, mechanical equipment, cooling towers, chillers, and more. These analyses have been as technical expert for both first- and third-party disputes. Using this experience, education, and knowledge, he also has analyzed multiple industrial accidents involving heavy machinery and other equipment.
Matt has provided expert witness testimony in deposition and in federal court, and he has dealt with files ranging in values from several thousand dollars to multi-million-dollar, multi-party disputes. Project sizes have ranged from multi-million square feet roofing projects, to commercial real estate portfolios, to small residential structures.
