Biography
John is a licensed Professional and Structural Engineer with over 25 years of experience in the field of structural engineering design and evaluation. He has a comprehensive range of experience in structural engineering design and repair that includes buildings, bridges and marine facilities. He specializes in forensic investigations to determine the cause and origin of structural and building system failures on residential, industrial and commercial structures and has experience investigating steel, concrete, prestressed concrete, masonry and timber structures; plazas; parking garages; marine structures; bridges; foundations; and exterior facades including masonry, EIFS, stone, precast concrete, one-and three-coat stucco, panelized systems, and roofing systems. John has also provided repair and rehabilitation support for distressed structures and facades, including repair design; development of specifications and details; construction administration; site observation; building code and OSHA compliance evaluations; and wind and storm damage evaluations.
In cooperation with local contractors and government agencies, John has engineered design solutions for the temporary shoring of bridges, bridge repair, bridge erection and demolition, building rehabilitation, temporary excavation bracing, protective shielding, and tower crane foundation and anchorage design. He has also assisted defense contractors in installing non-lethal acoustic weapons systems on petroleum producing and support vessels worldwide. In addition, he has analyzed existing structures to carry construction vehicles and construction-related loadings.
John has performed above and below water inspections on highway and railroad bridges, water storage reservoirs, dams, dock walls, bulkheads, seawalls, marinas, wharves, relieving platforms and piers, along with the associated residential buildings and industrial structures located adjacent to the waterfront facilities. These activities have been conducted worldwide for private owners and government entities, including the U.S. Navy, U.S. Army and U.S. Coast Guard. Along with cause and origin investigations, inspections have been both routine in nature, such as biennial or 60-month inspections, and specialized, such as emergency impact assessment inspections. In addition to conventional marine structures, John has also been involved with the recovery of failed fixed mounted oil platforms in the Gulf of Mexico resulting from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
