Biography

Dr. Kotsovinos is a fire safety expert specialising in the analysis of steel, concrete and timber structures under fire conditions and developing bespoke experimental campaigns to research performance of structures in fire conditions. He has delivered multiple fire safety design projects internationally such as high-rise buildings, bridges, tunnels, stadia and arenas.

Dr. Kotsovinos has co-authored more than 80 papers in peer-reviewed academic journals and international conferences. Dr. Kotsovinos holds visiting academic appointments and supervises research projects at Imperial College London, UK and York University in Toronto, Canada and is a member of various standards making committees. Dr. Kotsovinos chaired the BSI panel that revised the BS PD 7974-3 standard on “Structural fire response and fire spread”. He has received awards for his involvement in research and applying cutting-edge research to real projects. He lectures frequently at Imperial College London (MSc Module in Structural Fire Engineering) and has previously taught structural engineering courses at the University of Edinburgh.

Dr. Kotsovinos holds a BEng (Civil Engineering), MSc (Structural Engineering) and a PhD (Structural Fire Safety Engineering).
